I'm having the same problem on my new Gateway Windows 7 PC. I turned off the ability for the PC to sleep but would like to know what's causing it.

If you want to awaken your laptop from Sleep using, say, the touchpad, go into Device Manager - right click on the touchpad - Properties - Power Management tab - check 'Allow this device to wake the computer' and don't check 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.' Same thing for the keyboard.

I know of no way other than using the power button to awaken a computer from hibernation.

Not sure why. Not everything has it. For example my wireless keyboard and mouse do not. But I figured all touch pads and (built-in) keyboards should.

Do you have the correct driver for your touch pad, or a generic Windows provided one? Have you checked the the tab for your keyboard?

Just to show I'm not just dreaming I've attached a screen shot showing my Windows 7 touch pad.

TerryNet,

I have the same touchpad with a fully updated driver. I do not have the power management tab for it. Is there someplace this can be turned on?

Driver from Toshiba? Mine (Vista version) is from HP's web site (since my laptop is HP), dated June 20, 2008 and version 11.1.18.0.
