Hi,

Been having problems with this computer for a couple of weeks now. Whenever I am playing a game there is a good chance that it will randomly freeze and lock up the entire system, requiring a restart. Windows Error Reporting gives:

Anyone shed some light on how to fix the accursed thing?

Kservice.exe is a P2P service installed by Sky Broadband and others for streaming video. If you don't know what kservice.exe is, you probably don't need it. See if this helps: http://www.opinionatedgeek.com/Blog/...BlogEntry.aspx

That's a bit of a pest, I actually do use the Sky Player application, so removing Kontiki (on which it relies) isn't an ideal solution. I've stopped it running on startup via msconfig for now, to see if that works, but if anyone's got a solution that doesn't involve getting rid of it, I'd like to know!

You could have a firewall conflict issue that may be causing the error. From the Sky help website:

Quote:
In order to use Sky Player, you will need to allow Kontiki Delivery manager (KHost) and Kontiki delivery manager service (KService) to connect to the internet. Most firewall or internet security software will prompt you to allow or permit these programmes during the installation process.

Advanced users: If you have a very restrictive firewall, or a hardware or software router, then you may need to configure these to open certain ports to allow our programs to communicate with our servers. These ports are:

•Outbound to ports 80/tcp, 443/tcp, 8080/tcp, and 6667/udp
•Outbound ICMP
•Inbound to port 8080/tcp Possible traffic from the client on these ports (subnet / LAN peering):
•Outbound to ports 1948/udp, 1949/udp
•Inbound to port 1948/udp
Also maybe try downloading and re-installing the Sky Player again in case they have a newer version.
