Windows 7 "atikmpag.sys" error when latest ATI drivers installed (64 bit) Right. Quite a major error here, relegating me to my netbook, but here we go...
I recently (Last week) recieved my new baby- a quad core, 1 GB GPU, 4 GB RAM system, with 1 TB HDD. A step up from the last rig that died, roughly 4 times better, in fact.
Well, my adoration was short lived.
Installed Windows 7.
Good.
Installed the ASUS drivers from the CD.
Good.
Downloaded the latest ATI drivers from the website.
Good.
Downloaded Steam, and the recently purchased L4D2.
REALLY good.
Here, the first problems reared their heads...
L4D2 would suddenly hang at random, whether there was lots of onscreen or system activity or not, but just for a few moments.
Then, it would be a task manager stop-process job.
Then, upon boot... SHOCK, BSOD!
With an atikmpag.sys error.
Using nouse, I googled this on a seperate machine.
After MUCH trawling, I found it may be the video driver-
BAD.
So, safe mode boot, uninstall driver, notice vertical bands of discolourment on resolutions of 1280x1024...
BAD.
More pixelated patches of discolour on lower res.
Anyway, boots up fine minus drivers.
After much experimenting trying to get the drivers back, without using the ATI Catalyst manager, which can apparently cause issues, I decided to **ck it, and install XP, which doesn't get the atikmpag.sys error.
No.
It just wipes all the drivers off the motherboard; IE sound, wireless adaptor, GPU, etc.
HELP.
PLEASE.
