Solved: How can I get my WORD icon back?
On a new HP computer with Windows7, I installed Microsoft Office. Everything installed correctly, including the icons. When I did a windows update shortly after, the WORD icon disappeared and was raplaced by the one you see on my attached picture. I cannot change it in the properties area. How can I get the regular icon back?

Delete that broken shortcut and create a new one:

Right-click an empty part of desktop, choose New >> Shortcut

Click Browse and navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12

Highlight Winword.exe & click 'OK'

Type Microsoft Office Word for the name of this shortcut.

Done.

To place shortcut in the Microsoft Office list in "All Programs":

Right-click shortcut you just created and choose 'Copy'

Click "All Programs"
Right-click Microsoft Office folder.
Choose "Paste".

Thanks pip22 I knew I could make an icon from the program files but I didn't know which file was WORD. Very cool. I replaced both bad icons. Now on to a couple of other strange things that I'm still trying to figure out about Windows7
