Angry Windows 8 Stopping Downloads + Lag
Hi All,

Decided (stupidly) to upgrade to Windows 8 a couple of days ago and having nothing but trouble.

Win8 or my ISP or the net generally (not sure which but pretty sure it's Win8 as its the new factor and my old Vista install was fine) keep throttling my downloads to 0.0kps. This happens with a variety of games, including MechWarrior Online and Guild Wars 2 patchers/launchers. I also play World of Tanks and that has become almost unplayable with disconnects and lag. I can see the download slowing after a minute or so on the GW2 patcher, eventually dropping to zero. Bizarrely, downloads through Valve's Steam appear OK?

So far, I've updated my mobo Ethernet drivers (PC-direct router connection) and made sure my Win8 metered internet thing is off/on. A guy at the WoT forums directed me here to try a command prompt stack repair and IP config/renew solution forum post, both of which I've performed to no success. Same symptoms.

I've done an ISP Speedtest and Pingtest, both OK, the Pingtest came back with, 0% packet loss, 42ms ping, 22% jitter, grade b.

It's driving me wild! Any ideas? Greatly appreciated.

You made sure all the correct ports for the games you are talking about are open?.

Go to this link, find your router then the game or launcher u are having trouble with.

it will give you the steps you need to take. (also read up on what these do and issues help etc.
