Ad-Aware SE Updates on XP vs 9x
I was on my younger sister's computer who is the only one in the house running XP.

Can someone please explain to me why Ad-Aware SE will web-update with the latest definitions (SE1R231 19-03-2007) within the software update function on XP but refuses to on Windows 9x. Windows 9x requires you to visit LavaSoft's site directly to download the most current definition for SE and extract to C:\Program Files\LavaSoft.

Just interesting. We like 9x and think the software update function would update or not update the same regardless of the OS. I am surprised it updates at all considering SE was "discontinued" according to LavaSoft in favor of Ad-Aware 2007. It's like LavaSoft has a way to tell the definition to refuse to install via web-update on 9x but allow it to on XP.

Most new programs will only install or function properly in Windows XP, 2000, and Vista. Software designers don't want to spend time and money to have their programs work with Windows 95, 98SE, and ME.

Browse around the computer stores and look at the system requirements for the hardware that's sold. Most of them will only work with the newer operating systems. I set up an old Windows 98SE desktop and an old Windows ME desktop for my grandchildren, and I can't install a new printer on them because of the system requirements.
