Question VMM32.VXD & Reinstalling Win98/Confused
I was given this old computer and it currently has Win98 on it. When it starts up, it starts to DOS. It says VMM32.VXD is required to run windows.
Ive done scanreg /restore, and it failed every attempt I tried. So I did a dir vmm32.vxd /s and file was not found and it also said that it could not find WIN.COM, unable to continue loading windows. I also ran scandisk.exe and it said no errors but yet fixed 2 (Yea, I dont get that either LoL).
When I put my Win98 disk in the drive and start-up to reinstall Win98, nothing happens, and I did set the boot to read there first, but yet nothing happens. Am I missing something here, did I forget something? Or is there something else I can do?
Help would be much appreciated, TY!

Usually Windows 98 CDs are not bootable.

You need a boot floppy to start the PC with CD-ROM support, put the Win98 CD in the drive and run SETUP from E: (the CD drive).

If you don't have a boot floppy download the Win98 OEM version here:

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Of course you need a working PC with floppy drive and internet access.

After downloading, put a freshly formatted floppy in the drive and run the downloaded file.

This will start the process and create a boot floppy.

Use it to start the PC.

Good luck.

Ohh no :(
So with that all said, I am most likely in trouble and have no way to fix it (for the time being). To start off with, it does not recognize the E drive, I mean the lights go on, it appears to notice but then nothing happens, and I do not have any other computer with a floppy drive on it. This is the oldest comp. ive had since the 90's. I do Thank You for your help and knowledge.
I might be pretty stuck with this right now, without having another floppy drive for the start up boot floppy. Thx again!
