Solved: Ungrade from 98 to XP
I have been given a laptop from a friend who wants to see if it's possible to install Windows XP on it if he buys a copy of XP. The laptop is only gonna be used by his younger sister for MSN, internet, e-mails, etc. It is a Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT with a Pentium II Processor, 192.0MB Ram and a 6GB Hard Drive. Is this worth upgrading or will it just cause problems? At first look at it I noticed it only has 1 USB port and a CD drive and Floppy.

Any advice would be appreciated as I don't want to ruin it.

Thanks

IMHO, upgrading that system to XP will be a mistake.

Would it work though? They only need it for a basic machine?

Hmm OK so it might be a problem! Would a clean install of 98 be a better idea? I'm just trying to help them out cause they were gonna chuck this one out and haven't really got the money for a new one at the moment.

Make sure you make a note of Display and Sound drivers etc before you do a clean install.
A lot easier to know before hand so you can d/load them after the install.

Well I installed XP Pro and it went on no problem, drivers and everything worked fine and it's now it's running with SP3 without a glitch. It will do them for what they use it for.
