I was high for the first 5 minutes. Then the problems came...

Office 2k failed to install completely. Invalid Drive F:\. F:\ is the external hard drive I used to pull data off of the computer before formating.

VLC failed to install and there is no uninstaller . Revo uninstaller not compatible with 98.

Well, as I speak, my Ubuntu Linux CD is done burning. I'm gonna install Linux....geez windows 98!

I have MS office 2000 on both my 98 and xp pro machines. Maybe you could get www.openoffice.com to install and it works with MS office. (haven't used it myself but know people who do). If you are unable to d/l (transfer) data from the external HD perhaps if you put it on a thumb drive then put it on the 98 machine it will work for you.
Since MS discontinued support for 98 a couple of years ago, many other software mfg. have discontinued developing programs to include 98.

If you boot into doss prompt, type in scanreg /repair, you may be able to return to when you put the 98 in before you tried to install the VLC>

I attached the F:\ Drive and everything uninstalled fine and then I reinstalled. I deleted VLC. I don't think it created any registry entries...

Ubuntu failed to install...

It keeps on reaching a certain point then it says that the disk is in use and terminates.
