Hi Guys, apologies if posted in wrong forum, but anyone help me with this problem, I am running windows XP home edition and I have a removable key disk manufactured by Disgo, but although it it recognised when inserted, it does not show up on My computer as a removeable disk.

I have followed the advice below taken from the manufactures web site to no avail. Also have e-mailed manufacturers support and had no response.

Excerpt from manufacturers FAQ

"I have plugged the disgo into my XP machine and it was recognized, but there is no removable disk in My Computer, Why?"

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Select Admin Tools
Select Computer Management
Select Disk Management
Highlight disgo Drive
Select Action
Select All Tasks
Select Change Drive Letter and Path
Change to drive letter to a letter that you know is not being used


Any clues as to the problem anyone?

Hi Rude, thanks for the response,

No, have not tried either safe mode or admin acct, not sure how I need to try them. When I go into Admin Tools, Computer Management , the key drive shows up and I can explore the drive from there and copy to it, but there must be another easier method of accessing the drive than that.

I would appreciate a walk through on trying the safe mode and admin acct method.

Just had a thought,

when the key drive shows up under comp management, it shows as FAT, as my HD is formatted as FAT32 could this be the reason why the key drive does not show under My computer? If this is the case is a fat32 format the only option?
BTW the key drive shows up on another laptop running XP home, as well as my laptop running XP pro. So maybe that is not the cause.

Any other clues anyone?

Just a thought,
Have you installed all updates for XP Home?
I had similar trouble with my mp3 player via USB, they all went away once I got all updates installed...

The wonders of Windows XP eh?

I find that some removable drives will only work if you select drive letter B, have you tried that?

I just had the same problem with a digital camera via USB and although there is nothng anywhere that tells you this, drive B was the only one that works, now it appears in my computer as advertised.

I am investigating why this is so, may be a limitation on the drive letters allowed in the admin settings, no time to mess now but will let you know later perhaps!

Thanks for that, unfortunately it still does not appear under my computer when changed to B drive, I am now undergoing a very long e-mail Q & A session with support at Disgo, will post any outcome if successful.

It shows as present...but not a removable drive? What happens when you try to access the information on the device? Do you get any sort of error? If so, what.

Hi Ciber thanks for looking at this for me, when plugged into the desktop, it registers as being plugged in, but does not show under my computer as being present at all, consequently I cannot access it. The only way I can see it is via comp management, then I can explore and copy to it.

is there an option that you're using some of the following softwares: "powertoys for winxp-TweakUI" or "P._TuneUp_Utilities_2008"? if you are, follow these simple instructions: for TweakUI-
go to "My Computer"-->"Drives"-->then just put a "v" in the box next to your flash drive letter.

for TuneUp_Utilities_2008-
go to "Customize Windows"--> then pick "TuneUp System Control"--> get down in the left side bar until you get to "Administration", then pick "Drives". -->go to "Advanced", and then, in "my computer" (the first option) click on "Settings". then, just like in TweakUI, put a "V" in the box next to your current flash drive letter.

If you can access those files, get them out of there and format that drive. Format with NTFS is possible, but definately not FAT, unless you have some need for it.
