Toshiba Satellite A135-S2256 and Windows XP
Well, this laptop came with Vista, but I decided to put Windows XP on it instead, everything went alright, until the ATi Display drivers came in, since the Toshiba website doesn't have any XP drivers for this laptop, I've tried many many different driver packages and none of them have worked, the chipset is ATi Radeon Xpress 200M, even the drivers on the ATi website for that chipset for XP wouldn't work. What could be going on and can it be fixed?

Sometimes the computer manufactures have Platform specific drivers that have a brand name. You said the drivers from ATI website does not work what happens when you try to use them.

Ya even though it is a ATI card it may have a separate Chipset. Not much you can do here.

Vista Sucks - Toshiba Satellite A135-S2256
Without the ATI driver working, what does it prevent?

I have the same laptop with Vista factory installed. Vista is junk software. There is absolutely nothing good about it. The laptop should be running fast but Vista makes it take forever to startup and shutdown, and opening programs is a waiting game. Moreover, Vista just sucks in every way possible. From the choice of icons, icon color scheme, layout, annoying notifications, bugs, etc.

I'm planning to put XP on it, but now I'm worried about this ATI driver issue.

Any more input on this issue would be wonderful.

Thank you,
Samael

Prevents it from going as fast as it could, and the screen's native resolution isn't supported without 'em.

I still need help with this as Vista for the laptop won't work anymore, and WGA is saying that the key that came with it is invalid.

Would some 3RD Party drivers work?

Well, I got video support to work, I used these http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php drivers.

But I can't get Wifi to work. Could anyone help with that?

It's some Atheros chip. I can't figure out which one though.

wifi driver for toshiba A135
i had the same problem (with wifi, vidio and some others), i was only able to solve the wifi problem before going to the omega link you provided to solve the video driver problem. to solve the wifi problem i went to the toshiba website and looked at (i think) the A105 drivers to get the Atheros AR5006EG wireless network adapter (file version 4.1.2.111) called ar5211.sys. hope this helps.

If the manufacturer does not have them, that means they did not write them or bundle them.
While you may be able to use something like everest home or SIW to identify components and then search for individual manufacturers , and get drivers that way ; this is far more likely to meet success with a Desktop than Laptop.

I think your best bet would be to go back to vista.
