Solved: stop 0x0000000a (0x000000bo Blue Screen on Shutdown and Other Issues
I am running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension 9100. I am posting a new thread b/c I didn't see one that was very similar to my issues. Aside from having a whole host of other problems (which I'm not sure if I should address here or separate into other forums by topic e.g. downloaded Spywarebot by mistake instead of Spybot S&D, and residual issues, external hard drive not being recognized, issues with hp all-in-one) I receive a blue screen error upon shutting down my pc summed up version:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

blah, blah

STOP: 0X0000000A (0X000000B0, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0X804EF320)

Beginning dump of physical memory . . . etc.

My pc is running regularly, but when I restart or shut down, I get this error after windows XP logs me out, saves my settings and starts to run the shutdown process (that's what it says before the blue screen appears). I then can't do anything but manually turn the pc off. The next time I turn it on I get notification that the system has recovered from a serious error - report to Microsoft, etc.

I contacted Dell on 4/9 and they ran me through several tests. They had me uninstall my SONIC software thinking that there was an issue with it (cd burning software). I forgot to mention to them that since my external backup drive isn't being recognized in the USB controllers in device manager, I uninstalled the software for that (Maxtor and Retrospect). They had me do a system restore back to last Friday, but it didn't help.

After a few tests, Dell wants me to reinstall my operating system and I just cannot imagine doing that! I have so much stuff and am so afraid of starting all over, especially since I don't know what shape my external HD is in. As for the Spywarebot, Error Killer and Popup Radar programs, I have uninstalled them through Add/Remove programs (although the popup radar program still appears there). I have also deleted them in c: program files. I have run Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE and a lot of related things were caught and removed. However, the Popup Radar program still appears in Add/Remove Programs, but when I click to remove it it says File "c:\program files\popupradar\unins000.dat" does not exist. Cannot uninstall.

I have done tons of research for the last several days and I'm now crosseyed! I've seen so many different possible reasons and procedures to fix, I am very confused. I just don't know if any/all of these issues are related or not and am afraid to just try things without specific help - I don't know who to trust. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!

Since I posted my questions, I have found a more recent post "blue screen on shutdown" that is being worked on by Rollin' Rog. Since this error is similar to mine, I started the computer using "last known good configuration" but this didn't help. I have followed Rollin' Rog's instructions by performing a clean boot with no successes even when turning off all microsoft services - diagnostic startup. I did note, however, that when rebooted, there was a file checked in the startup tab: %systemroot%\system32\dump rep 0 -K" that wasn't there before. I have also taken the liberty to zip up 3 dumpcheck files for review if possible.

Also since I last posted, I rechecked all of my plugs on my external hard drive and plugged it in again and it was recognized. I then reinstalled the software without a problem. So, I'm still having the blue screen on shutdown issue and also the issue regarding the popup radar showing up in add/remove programs as listed in my first post.

Please help if you can! Thanks!

All three debug logs point to a problem with "sonypvl3.sys":
BugCheck 1000000A, {b0, 2, 0, 804ef320}
Probably caused by : sonypvl3.sys ( sonypvl3+223c )

It appears to be a driver associated with Sony HandiCam. Maybe try updateing to the latest Sony drivers? Or reverting back to older drivers? (I use old ATI AIW 9800 drivers... sometimes newer is not better).

I am posting the debug output from your minidumps in case someone has other ideas.

Frank4d:

Thank you so much for running that report for me! Once I found out that it was the sonypvl3.sys driver, I started doing research on that. I found another forum where one user had the same exact issue and posted his/her process for correcting it and it worked! I found it here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...63532&SiteID=1. I uninstalled the Picture Package software that came with the camera and have decided not to reinstall it at all. I don't understand why when software is uninstalled, the drivers don't get removed. So I did have to rename the sonypvl3.sys driver and then I ran ccleaner and restarted the computer and the blue screen was gone!

Anyway, I couldn't have fixed this without your help and I am truly appreciative!! Thank you!

Removing Sony Handycam Picture Package and the associated driver worked for me!

Details:
After seeing the posts on this forum, I checked the Sony site referencing the newly-available update to the Sony Handycam driver. At first I was skeptical this was my probleml, because I was running Version 1.08 of Picture Package, not V1.8 that Sony referenced, and my Handycam is older (model DVD403) than those listed on Sony's site. In addition, the Picture Package software had been on my computer for over 3 years, without any indication of a problem! My BSOD problems had appeared out of nowhere, every time on shutdown.

I uninstalled Picture Package and the Sony driver using add/remove from the Control Panel, and on the second reboot - no more BSOD problem!

I also need to say that when I called Dell about this problem, they also wanted me to reinstall Windows XP. They thought there was a Trojan problem (they told me sdbot.exe), but I didn't believe it because I did not see any of the associated processes running in the registry, symptomatic of sdbot.exe.

I am so grateful for your expertise and to have found this forum - thank you *so* much!
