I recently performed an optimization of my cpu with the Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC program. After the optimization i reebooted and have a bizare problem.

Windows installer is trying to install the WinDVD program.
I get 1 window that says: Please wait while windows configures WinDVD
and another window that says: The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'WinDVD.msi' in the box below...
then below it says use source: C:\DOCUME~1\Corey\LOCALS~1\Temp\pftA~tmp\.

When i click cancel i get this message: Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product WinDVD. The windows installer cannot continue. So i click ok, it goes away for a minute and then starts again...

So what was the solution? I have the exact same problem with a different installer!

i found the executable file that i had originally installed the program with. When i ran that program i had the option to install, repair or delete the program...install and repair didn't work so i deleted the program and then re-installed it...got rid of the loop and the program works great...hope that helps

I have the exact same problem, except the original exe file won't fix the problem. When I run it, I get a message that says it has encountered a fatal error and is unable to continue. I assume the options to install/repair/remove are beyond that point.....

I've deleted every trace that I can find of anything related to Intervideo or WinDVD and I still can't kill the installer.

The Windows installer cleanup utility can usually kill the installer configuration loop for whatever program(s) keeps triggering it if the only problem was with the install.

The following worked for me.

Click the original WinDVD.exe setup file and allow the program to extract. The files usually is extracted to C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\pftA~tmp\ folder. Once the extraction is over, setup will stop displaying an error waiting for you to click and close this error popup. Leave it undisturbed.

Now in the window where it says, The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'WinDVD.msi', browse to the folder "C:\Document and Setting\Corey\Local Settings\Temp\pftA~tmp\" and click OK. Once this window closes, you can close the reinstall error popup.
