Blue Screen Error. Please help.
My home computer was having serious spyware/virus problems. I tried to start it up the other day to clean it off but I am now receiving a blue screen upon start up. Any suggestions/solutions are appreciated. Thank you! This is the error:

STOP 0xC000021A {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 0xC0000022 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shutdown.

Does it matter that my error message says "0xc0000022" not "0xc0000034"??

Also, this is for Windows NT. I am running Windows XP. I can't get the computer to start up, so running a command prompt is out...unless I can try and boot in safe mode.

You can try safe mode, and last good known configuration.

As for the command prompt, you will need your windows cd.

I don't understand the part about needing my windows cd. I'm a beginner.

Do you know what causes this error message?

The link I provided has some known causes.

Do you have a Windows installation cd?

Do you have someone more familiar with computers who can assist you?

No, I do not. Yes, I do have the cd. I just do not want to start over. I had already looked at that microsoft post but it is for windows NT so I did not think it useful. I want to fix the blue screen and then get my computer cleaned off. Do you know of any where else that could do a step by step of how to fix the blue screen error?

Fixing the blue screen isn't as simple as a step by step. You are going to have to do some troubleshooting, and that would include trying to start in safe mode, last good known configuration, etc.

There is going to be no magical fix for this, and it may entail a complete reinstall.

Did you have help cleaning the virus, or did you go through and delete files that you weren't sure about?

I had done some cleaning a week prior to the blue screen but nothing had really helped. It was in bad shape. Ok, I am going to try the safe mode, last known, after work and will post on if that worked. Would the Dr. Watson thing work? I am assuming that Windows NT is a different operating system. Thank you!

As I said, this is going to be testing this and testing that.

I wouldn't pay that much attention to the exact error message (we have the main one addressed) as error messages caused by the same problem tend to have different numbers.

Yes, NT is an older operating system, but, I've seen similar error messages on both systems. I fear you may have cleaned one of the system files that is now creating this problem. Hopefully you didn't use any kind of registry cleaner?

Ok, I understand now. I have to find out the problem before it can be fixed. I am going to try the suggestions and will repost afterwards. Thank you so much for your time.

It had been a few weeks since I cleaned it when the blue error screen started appearing. I do not know what I cleaned off. I think I cleaned with AVG programs.

Ok, I had the impression that you cleaned it, then shut it off, and hadn't restarted it again until now?
