I have a Dell C521, just recently had Windows XP PRO installed on it. I'm having problems downloading and opening lots of files for Paint Shop Pro 7.
These are some messages I get for various reasons of which I can't remember exactly.
'It does not look like your system is configured to properly view this file. You can continue but the file you are trying to view may look "wrong".

For version PSP 7, you need MSVCRT10.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL loaded in both Windows and Windows/Systems Directories.

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel.

Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to DLL Cache. Insert your Windows XP Proffesional Service Pack 2 CD now.

I do not understand most of this except it doesn't seem to be configured correctly and needs files stored in a place I have no idea where. Can someone help me? I want to be able to open all my files for supplies needed for tutorials in Paint Shop Pro and right now I can't. Thanks, Ladyjen

If your machine was previously running another version of Windows and you just had it upgraded to XP, it's possible there are other/different system files that are required for PSP7 to run under XP than under the previous version of Windows. Have you tried simply reinstalling PSP7? Many apps (including PSP7, I believe), if you run the installer and it finds an existing installation, will ask if you want to repair the current installation. If you go into Add/Remove Programs (in the Control Panel) and it gives you a "Change" button, that should also give you the Repair option.

I have installed 3 other PSP 7 and get the same problems with all. Can you please explain to me how to install MSVCRT.DLL files? Also, in my Control panel, I do not see where the Service Pack2 has been installed. Should I go to MSN and try to get it and install it? Thanks, Ladyjen

Right-click My Computer, go to Properties... the General tab of System Properties will show the service pack level (mine says "Microsoft Windows XP, Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2"). Use Windows Update to make sure you're at the latest Service Pack and patch level... although I'd expect XP base to have the files you need, they're basic Microsoft C Runtime libraries.

You should be able to find downloads of them, if necessary, at http://support.microsoft.com, but try the Windows Updates first.

there is an option when loading a program on a system running XP . It is called compatably mode . You can change it to win 95 , 98 , ME , and others . This has helped me with some older programs .
