Service Pack 3
Service Pack 3 is now being offered through Windows Update. I just finished downloading and installing it. I have RC2 on my dual-boot XP on this laptop, and have had no issues with it, so I felt confident about installing the RTM version on this hardware package.

I'll try my desktop next. Same thing there--RC2 on the dual-boot XP with no issues.

I downloaded the full pack using administrator options--didn't want to download once each for each PC. It's 324,030 KB, but not everything gets used; depends on the individual PC configuration.

So I go over to M$ to find SP3. I did an XP update last night, with all the hassle about opening everything up to IE, since I use FX, and I've got a clean image of both XP, and XP SP2, then 3 or 4 verified OS images with "everything on them" I'm browsing the M$ website trying to find an SP3 download, and can't. I then find the CD iso DL of SP3, and think, what the heck, I've got 2 XP computers, I'll just burn a CD as BU. So I DL the iso from M$, Burn the CD, and start it up. This window comes up. Thinking that I'd better read the particulars after all the XP SP3 noise the last several days, I click on "What to know........
>>>>>>>So I click on "What to know before installing SP3, and I get this.
>>>>>>> Have I DLed the SP2 or the SP3 iso?????? I can't tell from this. It says SP2. BTW, what I was looking for is, with a clean install of XP (w/o SP2), so you need to install SP2 before installing SP3, or does SP3 have SP2 included?I can't tell. It looks like the CD iso contains both SP2 and SP3, but I'm just guessing....or is it that someone screwed up the "what you should know" intro where SP2 should actually read SP3?

I know you have to turn off your AV and any malware removal scanners. Are you also asked to disable your Firewall, during the installation set up? I have everything backed up, so I will be ready.

EVERYONE. JUST TO BE SAFE. TURN OFF THINGS LIKE THE ABOVE AND CREATE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING SP-3.

FYI.......... Take it or leave it.

My understanding is this is not the first issue of SP3.

There are already some problems found with this one.

Anybody who downloaded SP2 fresh out of the gate will understand when I suggest not installing this for a while yet. One would be better off to use a different browser and give MS time to get the bugs sorted out.

If you've installed the 100+ critical updates and the numerous optional updates since SP2 was released about 4 years ago, there's no big hurry to install SP3. It's supposed to appear as a critical update next month.

The full file size is 316 MB.

The version change from SP2 to SP3(Final) is from 5.1.2600.2180 to 5.1.2600.5512.

RC2 is 5.1.2600.3311.

RC2 Refresh is 5.1.2600.5508.

I'm guessing someone didn't update the screen shot and what you have is SP3.

All service packs always include all previous versions. You do not need to install SP1, SP2, or any other updates before installing SP3.
