hi. for a while now ive had a few HUGE files for these games i have and i cant seem to defrag them. does anyone no why or if its even a that much of a big deal

Probably because there is not enough room to put them all in one piece. It makes no difference, anyway. So long as your drive is not horribly fragmented, you won't notice the slightest bit of difference. And if you ran defrag, most files are defragged. You did your duty. Your machine is happy. So don't lose any sleep.

its just cause there bout 1 gig each and theres 4 of them. 1 which is from crysis and my comp is bout 5 or 6 years old and really slow. (im amazed that crysis even works at all on it. it does but only just)

the 4 files have about 1000-2000 fragments each is that much???

Thats a good amount. Try using Contig Defrag with Power Defrag for the GUI. It seems to work faster than the default windows software. Get Power Defrag here:

You can use the CLI if you are comfortable with it. Then you won't need the Power Defrag GUI.

Yes, I agree that the number of fragments is high. Try another defragger. The "contig" that was suggested by Kush6 is capable of degargging individual files (at least within the space constraints). I wouldn't shoot for complete defragmentation, by any means, but reducing the number of fragments may help.

If you decide to use a different defragger from now on, use only one. They disagree about how to defrag (though all do a fine job) and can conflict if you use more than one. They will both be trying to arrange files according to their own algorithms.

Of course, any way that you can increase the space on the drive even temporarily will help.

How much absolute free space do you have on the drive? Anyway, a 1GB file with 5-10 fragments is not a problem. 2000 fragments is not good though.

You can try defragging with the free trial version of Diskeeper 2k8. It should be able to defrag under low space conditions if you leave it on the idle defrag mode. Actually, you can analyze using the file performance map on DK, and it'll tell you if the fragmentation of those files is a problem at all in the first place.

i used page defrag and it speed up my system a bit. and i used Defrager now there are only about 10-15 for each of the files
