Solved: can't print to a networked printer
Good Afternoon All,
I have an interesting situation. On a 100 node network I have multiple printers with static IP’s. 1 certain printer, Marketdell, on port 172.16.2.156 is not able to be printed to from only 1 user. I have deleted the printer from the PC, shut down, turned on, Added printer opened notepad and tried to print, Can’t print.
I opened up printer and faxes, double clicked on the printer and could see the empty print queue. I then opened up Marketdell Printer Properties, clicked on print test page. Received error: Test page filed to print, would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistance. I ran through that and still does not work.
This user can successfully print to other printers as well as other “Dell” printers
The Marketdell printer model is a 3100CN

Is it the user or is it the machine?

Can the user logon somewhere else and print to that printer? if not look at the users group membership [may not belong to the correct group to access the printer]

If the user can print from another location just reimage the pc with a known working image. You can spend a lot of time on driver reloads and regedits.

I always forget to say something...
She could print to it 3 days ago and we don't have auto updates enabled on our Machines.
She also can print from a different machine-
I'd say it's machine.

We don't have imaging software (I'm working on getting them to purchase something)
Since the Print Server dishes out the Driver, would that be the problem? I'd assume not as the printer works fine for rest of company.
What regedits or driver removal options from the client are there?

Since nobody can answer the above, I have a new question/info.
Office Project Pro was installed and Windows Updates were performed.
A driver for that printer was installed.
My question. How to uninstall the printer driver manually that Windows Update installed. I have looked into the "Add remove program area" and could not see it nor an option to remove it.

it's not a permissions issue as I can have her print from a different PC, and the driver was installed via windows update recently. that's the only thing that changed on the PC.

Review the event viewer log for entries related to the installed driver, that should be able to point you to the install log, and a uninstaller.

I'd remove the printer entirely from her workstation, and then re-add it. If it's networked through a print server, just navigate to the server and double-click to add it. If it's network to a specific ip address, you will need to either clear the port it is currently using, or just rename the new one; i.e. IP__172.x.x.x, just add an extra underscore to create a new port. Then add the drivers from the known good ones, the same ones that work on the other printers.

As for the uninstalling of updates, if the other pc's are working fine with the updates, it's not that. If you want to uninstall them, each of them come with a spuninstall folder that has a .exe in there to uninstall that specific update.

Valis- no other PC's received updates. just that one. also I have uninstalled many times and reinstalled. it still wont' work. I'll post back with updates. thank you everybody!

just try running the uninstall and NOT installing the update. If none of the other machines recieved the update in question, then the problem may lay in that direction.

But I'd first try deleting the printer entirely, and then readding it and the drivers and seeing what happens.

For the resolution:
Deleted/removed all printers listed in Printers and Faxes.
I navigated to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers and deleted the W32X86 folder.
restarted.
added each printer.
All printers work like a charm.
