Fresh Install XP Pro and Raid
I have 4 80 gig hard drives in with a PERC hardward controller. I am looking to create a 20 gig partition on drive 0 for windows/os and the rest of the drive to be in a raid 5 configuration with drives 1,2 and 3.

When I boot my PC I can enter the RAID configuration application and either create virtual drives and setup my raid, or leave each of the discs as a physical disc. Would it make sense if I

1) Enter the configuration and create a RAID 5 array with all 4 discs
2) Restart the PC and insert the XP disk
3) Create a 20 gig partition using NTFS for the os, and leave the other 60 gigs alone
4) When windows installs, go into MY COMPUTER and manage my drive and create a new volume for the unpartitioned section, calling something like drive e?

In this scenario would I essentially have a raid system in place that would create copies of drive E, rather than drive C with the os?

I think XP will 'see' a single 80GB drive once you have set up the Raid.

To install XP you will have to either have the Raid drivers on a floppy and press F6 when prompted OR slipstream them into a new XP install CD, nLite will do that.

I tried setting up a RAID 5 across all 4 drives and then partitioned one of them for the OS and XP sees a a 240 gig drive. So something is screwy.
