Goes back to menu screen, or straight to safe mode?

Is the option last known good an option? If so select it.
Also, is there an option there to "disable restart on system failure" if so select it first.
This way instead of a reboot to the options screen you will get a blue screen of death with a stop error describing what is causing the problem. If you post the error in full someone can analyze it and tell you what is causing this.

A third thing which may work is to choose safe mode command prompt only. This should boot you to a black screen with a flashing
C:_>
prompt .
If you get this far you can run system restore from the command prompt
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449
assuming windows is in a windows folder on the C: drive you type
C:\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
and hit enter
it will bring up a list of restore point dates. Choose the most recent BEFORE the problem started and follow the prompts to restore your computer to that date.

Hi guys,
I have a Gateway and logged on this morning because I was having the very same problem. I followed the last instructions and had no luck but I did finally see a quick flash of words in the upper left corner of my screen and it was too fast to read. I followed the steps again but looked more closely to the wording. "Press F11 for system recovery." After doing this and waiting nearly 4 minutes, the Gateway logo appeared and then I was prompted to enter disc for system recovery. As soon as I'm done I will let you know the results. thanks, mack

helping
Sorry for the delay in responding. As soon as you see the words flashing in the upper left hand corner of your screen during the reboot process, press F11. At this point, you should be prompted to your Dell main page. It will instuct you to reload your Dell System Recovery disc. After that, follow the prompts. Hope this works, mack
