lsass.exe: "When trying to update a password" error
First, I do apologize if this thread is a bit redundant. I've read through as many threads as I could which deal with the same sort of problem I'm having, but I still have questions.

Recently, when I booted up Windows, I received the "System error: Lsass.exe
When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct."

I have tried booting to the Last Known Good Configuration, to no avail.
I have tried booting in Safe Mode, to no avail.
I've tried disabling automatic reboot upon System Error, but this doesn't seem to work either.

My copy of Windows came installed on my laptop, so I don't have an XP Install/Recovery CD.

Aside from purchasing an XP CD to do a complete reinstall, I feel like I have exhausted my options (at least the ones I am aware of).

Is there anything left to try?
Thanks!

Most of these OEM's have a recover partition on the hard drive.
What is the make and model of this machine?

Thanks DaveA,

Do you think, based on the situation, that a repair/reinstall of XP is my best option?

To all the gurus out there:

I anticipate a long phone call if following DaveA's advice and calling Dell Tech Support, especially since the warranty on my laptop expired long ago. Before I make that call, is there any other thing I can do to help diagnose and/or fix the problem I'm having?

All help is appreciated.
