Computer will not start up fully
Ok, looking for a little help here.

About 3/4 the time when I start my computer up it will get to the desktop but it will not allow me to do anything. I can attempt anything, but it doesn't actually open any program. When i look at my start-up programs, it shows that some of them never fully initialize. The other 1/4 of the times my computer works perfectly.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Same problem here. For me, this happens when I connect my Linksys USB to my computer and turn the computer on. I get the same problem as you and it does not happen all all the time.

Try doing Alt Control Del and under user tab see if you are listed. Usually when you wait, does the desktop eventually load?

Even if I wait sometimes, it does not start-up. I'm going to go through my start-up programs and see if one of them is the culprit. Wouldn't surprise me if all it just my antivirus being a pain.

I dont even have anti virus and I have the same issue. Besides, I have read many posts by others having the same problem. I think it might have to do with windows xp update. Im hesitend to reinstall service pack 3 but I might need to.

Let me know if you find out anything.

I suspect an IRQ conflict.

First, disconnect all USB devices, then try again.

If all else fails, then do a "repair install".
You won't lose your personal data and documents,
but certain settings, like screen resolution, Adobe Gamma,
and remembering last windows settings, WILL be lost.
You will also lose all of your Windows updates, so
you'll have to go through the update rigamarole.

ALSO: __BEFORE__ you do a repair install,
look at the last few programs and/or drivers that you installed.
Did you add a PCI card? Did you install any new hardware?
Can you find updated drivers for this hardware?
