hangs on safe mode re-start
When I boot into the safe mode and log onto to either the Administrator or my user accounts, it does go into safe mode fine, but when I try to either do a shutdown or a restart, it just hangs on the windows XP shut down screen and with the hard drive lite on steady too. So then I need to do a "hard off" by pressing and holding the PC power button. It does work just fine from booted into regular windows for a shut down or a restart. I have a Gateway desktop from spring 2006, with a AMD Athlon64, 3700, 2 GB memory, XP Media Center Edition.

I use a USB optical type mouse, can not using a standard PS2 type mouse connection cause this hung on a re-boot issue ? I did try switching the video from digital DVI, to the standard VGA analog connection with my LCD monitor, but the problem still occured.
