Really Annoying MS installer problem
So everytime Win XP SP2 starts - the system gets the ms installer launched ready to lauch a non-existant Jasc Paint Shop 5 installation process starts ( it stops at the point where it looks for the cd) - really annoying...Here is what I tried

1) Tried the Micrsoft Installer Cleanup Utility - ( I'ver only ever seen this work once or twice anyway)

2) Tried updating "Windows Installer" to the lastest version

3) Deleted any references to "Jasc" in the registry.

4) Went to C:\Programs Files\Jasc and deleted the whole folder

5) Went to Reg "...Key Current Version Run Once" and made sure there were no references to Jasc.

The user has lost the original installation cd - so any suggestions on where I go from here?

Well....you can try this:

Download Dial-a-fix from http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Then, in the 2nd Section, where it says MSI Installer, select all of them then click go.

This reinstalls the MSI Installer Services and does a couple of other things regarding the MSI Installer.

If it works then congrats...

If it doesn't... then sorry =(

PILL5B3RRY, thanks for that-looks promising - will give it a go when onsite tomorrow...

BUT will need a back-up solution if that is not sucessful...so keep those suggestions coming...
