Smile Solved: Ca anyone help a Beginner ?
My computer has really been slow last couple days. Loading programs and pages off and online. Pages not closing properly, i.e. freezing on screen then disappearing slowly . Can anybody help?

I am not a gold shield but by looking at your log I see you have way to many programs loading at startup . That would be the 04's in your log file . I think I counted 27 . On my PC I only have 6 loading at startup . If I need anything else I can load it when needed . 27 is bound to slow you down a bunch .

Get rid of the eAcceleration and Acceleration Software programs. They're considered rogue programs and not recommended for use.

Get rid of Windows Defender because it's not needed and it's another program loading during startup and running in the background that's bogging down your computer. Get rid of Logitech Desktop Messenger for the same reason.

There's no need for your instant messaging(chat) programs to load during startup and run in the background. You can manually start them when you're ready to use them.

Having too many programs load during startup and run in the background will bog down most computers and can cause various problems. Other than the antivirus program and the third-party firewall program(for those who use one), very few other programs need to load during startup and run in the background.

I suggest that you do a full scan with AVG 8.0 and see if it locates any viruses, trojans, etc.. It'll also scan for spyware, adware, tracking cookies, etc. that you should get rid of.

I might be late sorry for that
umm...I noticed that you have programmes that you don`t need and they work when the os stars up so you can get rid of them or don`t let them work while windows is starting by going to (start -> run -> write "msconfig" -> press ok -> go to startup) and remove the check on the programmes that you don`t need like e. i. instant chat ect.

Your startup menue looks a bunch better , Go here http://majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html and download ATF Cleaner . A small free program that you use to delete 4 different temp files cookies , and a few other things all at one time . I use this program every day . Another thing I do is run defrag every day . Just little things that make the PC run smoother .

The O4 startup list looks much better, but you can still uncheck and disable a few more:

Running Disk Defragmenter once or twice a month is plenty. Running it every day is overkill.

Before you run it:

1. Get rid of everything in:

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\(USERNAME)\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMP
(Note: Delete the contents of the TEMP folders and n-o-t the TEMP folders!)

2. Empty the Recycle Bin.

3. Turn off AVG 8.

Click Start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.

When the Services window appears, expand it so you can see the list more clearly.

Double-click each of these entries:

Adobe LM Service

eAcceleration Notification Service

eAcceleration Product Manager Service

FW Service

Google Updater Service

InstallDriver Table Manager

change the setting from Automatic to Manual, then click Apply.

Close the Services window and then restart your computer.

----------------------------------------------------------------

To temporarily disable AVG 8, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to open Windows Task Manager.

Click on and highlight avgtray.exe and then click End Process - Yes.

Close the window and then hover the mouse arrow over the multi-color AVG taskbar icon so it disappears.

Restarting your computer re-enables it.

Yes, drop your subscription to Stop Sign and stick with Grisoft AVG 8.

Go into Windows Firewall or Security Center in the Control Panel and make sure the firewall is turned on.

Running Smoothly
Hi flavallee,

I did as instructed and when computer started up again i got the following message on screen :
