Audio won't work
I am dual-booting Windows XP and Ubuntu8.0. I installed Windows XP approximately four or five days ago, and have been trying to get everything set up since. I am having trouble getting the audio to work, though. My audio is integrated with my motherboard (which is an ATI Xpress 3200 RD580). I am looking for chipset drivers for this, but cannot find them. In the device manager, my audio device shows up with an exclamation mark next to it under 'other devices'.

How do I make this work? I know the hardware is installed correctly, because sound is working in Ubuntu.

Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, click on the Report Wizard in the Menu Bar. Save all hardware related pages (the default) to a TEXT file in a location of your choice. (It will default the location to C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\Reports, unless you redirect it.)

Compress (zip) the Everest Report text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)

These are the motherboard drivers; http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...ntegrated-xp64

Audio is usually controlled by the South Bridge in the Chipset.

I installed the South Bridge drivers, but my audio still doesn't work, and under 'other devices' in the device manager, I still have a yellow exclamation mark next to audio.

Open Services. (Start, Run, services.msc) Is Windows Audio Started and set to Automatic?

Is the onboard sound device enabled in the machines bios?

Windows Audio is started and set to automatic, yes. I don't know how to check if the onboard sound device is enabled in the BIOS, though.

bios

When you first start your machine, the initial screen that comes up identifies motherboard information (long string of characters) and your bios ID. (Award, AMI, Phoenix, etc) There is usually a line at the bottom of the screen with the key to press to enter the bios (also known as SETUP) utility. On many machines, this is the DEL key. It can also be F2, F10, etc. If you don't see this (The manufacturers LOGO screen can sometimes cover it.) Here's a link for various bios entry keys; http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

Once you gain entry into the bios, the keys to navigate and modify settings will be shown on every screen. Look for Integrated Peripherals (or the onboard audio device may be under Advanced, then another sub catagory.)

Sorry, I don't know how I mixed up the links.

This should be your motherboard, and the audio driver is at the bottom of the page;
