Windows AutoUpdate Problems
I am running WinXP, SP2.

(1) I can not get the Windows Auto Update feature to accept and retain the option I want. I set the option to "Notify me but do not automatically download and install them". That setting is persistent for the current session. If I power down and power back up, the setting is now "Download updates, but let me choose when to install them". Any thoughts why this might be happening?

(2) There are updates sitting in the update queue; I do not know what they are and probably do not want them. Each time I log off, the option is automatically set to "Install Updates and ..." I am careful about selecting the Shut Down option, but I know I will not be paying attention one time and ... So, how do I clear out the update queue?

Thanks

I don't have an answer to your problem I'm afraid and, if you don't get any more helpful responses, I can only suggest that you do what I do, which is to disable Automatic Updates and go to MS Update after every second Tuesday and use the 'Custom' option.

Are you doing this by right clicking on 'my computer', selecting properties, automatic update and checking the selection of your choice there?

Thanks for the reply. I have tried it both ways:
1) as you suggest through My Computer
2) via the Control Pane and Security Settings

Both methods should be equivalent, but who knows what Mr Gates had in mind.

Any thoughts on question #2, how to clean out the queue of updates?

Thanks

Sorry, I can't help with your #2 because I have never used Automatic Update so I have no idea what a 'queue' of updates is, or, more importantly, how to get rid of one!
