can not find bootable device!!!!!!!!
hello

well i am using dell inspiron 6000 with 2 partitions windows xp and the linux flavor kubuntu

the problem is i have blue screens (different error code each time) and each time i try to restart i get "cannot find bootable device press f1...." or i get repeatedly the word GRUB
and sometimes it doesnt give the blue screen errors but the laptop suddenly decides when i try to bootup the same problem "no bootable device"

i boot using the kubuntu live cd and reinstall the GRUB, and this fixed it and i could access both windows and linux, but the problem is that it is repeated almost everyday!

so do i need to reinstall windows or is there something else that i can do to fix this?!

HELP!

ps: i made no changes to the partitions, i only uninstalled oracle but that was a couple of weeks before this problem started to occur

For how long have you had it duelbooting without any problems?
which did you install first, windows or kubuntu?
The guys on the linux forum might have lots of ideas, have you posted there?

interesting stuff to read in here where? the linux forum?

i have had dual booting for months and no problem

now there's this interesting thing, i used to change menu.lst so that the default os would be windows, and it was working fine those several months, when this problem happened i used the same menu.lst (instead of the one that was created automatically that had linux as default) and the problem stated before occurs

this last time i didnt do that i kept the original menu.lst and guess what i had no problem since yesterday (which is a great thing for me now!)

i really dont know what is the problem , but that menu.lst that i used to use works fine at a friends laptop!!!

Grub should work fine, the real question is 'WHY is your MBR getting rewritten so frequently?'.

Something is messing this up. Make sure your menu.1st is current for your distro. If you could paste this file too so we can look at it may help.
