What is the error message you get when trying to access one of the folders/files...

I am not sure it is the same thing, but if your previous windows installation was password protected then it's users documents were locked.

Try this method for the above

If it's the "simple" ownership issue, Aitrusskyy showed you the solution.

But it sounds like you protected those files with XP's encryption. Forum rules preclude offering help to break encryption. If this is the issue, you'll probably need the help of somebody with the skills and tools and computing power of the FBI or CIA.

the error message is "The file is under use by some other application""Windows cannot access the specified path, device or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to open the item"

If i open the music files, they open in media player but they don't work and a message appears and if i open a picture file,it shows no preview...

I actually encrypted those files and folders in my last windows before formatting.

PLEASE HELP ME

and the microsoft method link given above has no use to me

Unless you have saved the certificates from your old user before having formatted you cannot open those files. How did you back up your data? Did you save your old user data?

See post #3 and read the forum rules.

We could shed a tear for you, but the basic rule of data is to have at least two copies of anything important. And if it's encrypted make sure there is virtually no way of losing the encryption key.

What is it about my last post (#9) or the forum rules/policies that you do not comprehend?

We understand that the data is private. Privacy is the whole and only purpose for encryption, right?
