Bad video RAM wouldn't be corrupting your files, and since a memtest86+ scan comes up clean, that leaves L2 cache - in other words, a defective CPU.

Hm. Is there any test that I can run to test for a bad L2 cache? Just to make sure that the BSOD wasn't just due to already corrupt files due to something else...

You've already reformatted and reinstalled several times, the only other possible cause for corrupt files would be a seriously damaged Windows CD.

All data processed by the CPU must pass through the L2 cache - if that's got a bad bit or two, that means any data passing through that portion of it may be corrupted. That includes installation files being read from the CD and then written to disk.

I'm just not sure if it's due to the CPU or the memory though; I don't want to RMA the wrong part again. Right now I have one stick of memory swapped out so we'll see how things work.

I tried running the Mersenne prime stress test to determine if it was the CPU or not. While running both options that it said didn't test the RAM much, the tests went perfectly. The option that tested the RAM also would fail after a few seconds with a hardware failure error message. So I swapped out a stick of RAM and tried again with just one stick in and the test works perfectly. I haven't downloaded anything large to test that though. I think I'm going to reformat with just that stick in and see how things go. Thanks!
