Windows 2000 SP4 or SP3 Setup Fails
Installing either Windows 2000 SP4 or SP3 on my Windows 2000 SP2 pc results in error that the Windows Installer is not digitally signed. Clicking the "OK" button results in "An unexpected error occured" and the setup fails. Thinking maybe it's an oudated Windows Installer - "Msiexec.exe" is the cause, installing Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) results in error saying it needs SP3 and thus also fails. Downloading from Microsoft SP4, SP3 sites, saving it on my pc and then executing them results in "SP4 (or SP3) Setup determined that the following downloaded SP4 (or SP3) files are corrupt"- showing a whole list of of them. Please help. Thanks.

If you want to search for Microsoft digitally signed software, visit the Windows Update Web site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to see if one is available.
Do you want to continue the installation?
If you click More Info, you receive the following error message:

i have w2k on one machine and only add sp4 after the install, direct from ms.

sp4 incorporates what was the latest and greatest and you don't need to do them sequentially.

perhaps some files were corrupted by saving to the hard drive.
instuctions as i remember, recommend "run", not save.

i'm unclear on what you've done, an upgrade to w2k or a clean install or a repair.

i'd save what you can and need, boot to the w2k cd, full install, remove partition/s, create one partition, format quick ntfs and do sp4 after the install.

i've said before, i don't save the sp's to the hd and the only one i download/run, from ms, is sp4.

i've never seen the error message you posted in many installs of 2k/sp4.
