Is this the blue screen of death?
MY Wife's laptop is an IBM Thinkpad R40 running XP pro with SP2. It has 1 gb of memory. The computer gets "taken over " By this error message :

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing

0X0000000A
(0XFFBDF7D0,0X00000001,0X00000000,0X8050DA88)

The background screen is blue by the way. Is this the blue screen of death I have heard about for years , but never seen?? Thx All !

Yes, when did the problem begin? Have you tried just doing a System Restore to a prior date?

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder. *this assumes 'c' is your boot drive, if it is not, subsitute accordingly
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a non Windows driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

Since almost all bugchecks can be caused by faulty ram, I would recommend you perform memory tests.

Download and install HijackThis. Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

I will do what you say, but for the record I installed new memory trying to fix this problem. The computer would not even boot without me taking the memory out and re-installing it. So I just purchased new memory trying to fix this. Obviously , memory alone isn't the problem so I'm guessing driver?? I'll do what you said in your post and wait for your reply. Thx for your help......

I restored the laptop to factory settings before I received your reply so I'm guessing looking at the dump file is now mute? Even after reformatting , I still get the same error message.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0X0000000A

I am thinking of replacing the hard drive. Am I wrong?

Problems that continue after a factory restore are almost certainly hardware related.

Have you tested the current memory?

Upload any new minidumps as suggested before -- they can point to hardware problems in some cases.

From the looks of that error address you posted previously I was thinking about something network related -- perhaps a bad NIC.
