Hi -

Iam having touble burning audio files from my windows media player. it begins to burn and then I get a bubble from my task bar that warns about low disk space. The burning only goes for anywhere from one to five songs worth then stops. When I click on those that didn't burn I get a window that reads, "Windows Media Player cannot burn the files because there is not enough free disk space to store the temporary files. Delete some unneeded files on your hard disk and then try again."

I did this, and when I go to my computer it shows:

Local Disk C: Total Size=31.1GB Free Space=676KB
Local Disk D: Total Size=5.84GB Free Space=3.49GB

After I had removed files the difference showed in Disc C, also
when I go to properties of Disc C it shows no free space so I don't know which is correct.

I have bought an external hard drive and that doesn't seem to have helped.

How do I sove the problem -- where do I need to make space -- and is there a way to do it that I am unaware of?

HELP!!!!!!!
I need to resove this as quickly as possible as it is affecting my business.

your "C" drive is full either replace it with a bigger drive or clean off all unnecessary programs and file you have created on it.
windows page file will need at least double the memory of the machine and 600k odd space not enough.

store mydocuments on your "D" drive store all files you create on "D"

I bought an external hard drive can I use that or should I move the files on the c drive to the d drive and how do I know what I should move ?

The external hard drive I bought has 320GB

what do you mean about the windows page file needing at least double the memory of the machine? The machine is a laptop- soes that make any difference?

well your c drive is full no room for windows system to work in its the same for all systems lappie or desktop
On your other drive create a folder called mydocs
any files you have created data /audio/video most default into "MYdocuments. right click on the mydocuments desktop icon click properties/ move type the path to the new drive where you want to store all mydocument files. All files will move to the new directory and you still access the short on the desktop "MYdocuments to get to the folder on your other drive. The other folder can be any name you wish to make.e.g if you move the files to d drive then if you create a folder called mydocs then the path you type in is D:\mydocs

this will clear a lot of files off c drive.

well we tried what you suggested and when we went to burn the things we wanted on to a CD we weretold the files could not be located. We tried going to system restore and the only restore point was not far enough back to do any good. Right now we are trying to restore at least his music (which he needs for his work) from the music backup we put on the new external hard disc. We are praying that it will work, but even if it does we are probably back to the same problem with burning as we started this conversation with.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate your help and am hoping that you can continue to help us figure this out.

Well restoring the backup of his music files worked and he has 13.? GB of free space on C now we are waiting to see if he can burn past the first 4 songs.

Also remember to defrag your drive the files are on. you want to burn
other wise if the files are fragmented badly the hdd can't read the files fast enough to keep up with the burner and you will get burn drop out.
if your moving large amounts of data like copy delete and move files
remember to defrag that drive the files are on.
keep C clear of your own files and only use C for installing programs and email and web browsing and clean out all temp files
get hold of a program called emptytemp try google for that small utility..

Thank you for all the info, you've been a huge help.

We defragged before we moved things , but we'll do it again since moving things may have caused some fragmentation.

Emptytemp sounds like a good idea, we'll look into it.
