Solved: My DVD Burner isn't recognized.....???
I have an HP Compaq 6515b and after I deleted Nero (could have been before that) I noticed that it only recognizes my drive as a CD Drive and no longer my DVD drive. It won't let me burn DVDs so do I need to search out DVD software? I have gone to HP and the only thing that they say about a DVD (drivers wise) is for a WinDVD program. What do I need to install to get my DVD burner back?

Thanks!

What does device manager say and have you tried uninstalling the driver for it in device manager, reboot PC and see if will try and find new hardware and reinstall?

Device Manager showed Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-861H. I uninstalled it and will reboot once my Virus scan is complete.

Thanks for the advice, I'll post back the results later.

I am not sure if this will solve your problem.

You may also just try deleting the infcache.

Haven't rebooted my system yet. I deleted the drive in Device manager and will reboot when the scan is done to see if it reinstalls it, if not I will try this. Funny thing though, my comodo kept warning me that it was installing something and I tried to deny, but it was too much so I let it try to install, THEN it said it was XP Service Pack 3 so I canceled it. Why would they try to force that on me, it was a scam wasn't it? Virus?

It probably wasn't a scam, if you are allowing automatic MS updates. MS just wants to insist on all of us swallowing SP3, regardless of whether our computers are properly prepared or not or whether or not it is needed by a particular system.

Thanks Redoak.

I installed Roxio and even though in My Computer still says CD Drive, it burned a data DVD to my +Rs so I am thinking it is fixed.

Thanks!

Cool deal, I will. Just out of curiosity though, why is there a big push to mark it finished? I mean I have had posts from way back when that were never marked. I guess I'm just not seeing the point....but I will do that.

Thanks for all the help....

Because the problem was solved. This way people who do nothing but help around here don't have to waste their time opening your thread to see if it still needs attention.
