Server 2000 to Server 2008
We recently purchased a new server to take the place of our rather old DC. I've found information on migrating Active Directory from a 2000 server to another 2000 server, a 2000 server to a 2003 server, a 2003 server to a 2003 server, and even 2003 to 2008, but none for the leap from 2000 to 2008. Is it relitively straight forward? How similar to converting from 2000 to 2003?

If actually planning on retiring the 2000 server;
I would attach the new 2008 server to the existing domain, dcpromo it leaving the domain/forest functional levels where they're at, then transfer all FSMO roles and other services(file server, DHCP, DNS etc) to the new server, once you retire/demote the 2000 server, you can raise the domain/forest functional levels on the now prominent 2008 server.
As long as that 2000 server is a domain controller, you're stuck at the 2000 levels.
