autoplay issues
Hi,I am experiencing problems when i try to import photos to windows live photo gallery, until now whenever i have inserted either an sd card or usb from phone autoplay has allowed me to import them without problem, however now when i attempt it i am greeted with the message
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action, create an association in the set associations control panel"
I have tried numerous times to set the program but have cannot seem to remedy the situation,i can choose to import from the program itself but this imports all photos not those taken since the last import..
any help...thanks in anticipation...

I'm experiencing the same things today (August 17, 2008) too. This is the first time I tried to import photos after installing a windows update associated with photo gallery. I wonder if that update brought this bug.

I was able to reset the AutoPlay to ask me everytime instead of using Windows Live Gallery and now it no longer gives me that error when inserting my SD card. However, when I try to import the photos using Windows Live Photo Gallery, I get this error. So it looks like that last update may have caused this issue. I'm going to see if reverting back before this update will fix the issue.

In the meantime, here is how to change your autoplay action when inserting a SD card with photos...

1) Open the AutoPlay window in the control panel. In Vista, you do this by opening the control panel and then type "AutoPlay" int he search field, then select the "AutoPlay" main heading.

2) Once the AutoPlay window is open, go down to the "Pictures" section and select "Ask me every time"

I found this article. It didn't help me. When I got to the step of clicking the CAB file, I didn't find a MSI file, but found a MSP file.

ok. Here's an update. I uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Live Photo Gallery. (I think there is a way to revert to a previous version in Vista, but I'm not sure how to do that so I went with the quick and dirty of refreshing the application.)

After I installed the program and installed a January 2008 update, I was able to once again insert my SD card and have Windows Live Photo Gallery import my photos. However, I did NOT install the most recent photo gallery windows update from 8/6/2008 (KB 955359) as I think that is the update that is causing our problems. Plus that update fixes an issue which I have never experienced so I can do without it.

I hope this helps the original person who posted this issue and any other people who find this thread.
