Problem installing vista, currently running ubuntu
My system is an acer x1200 and I have been running linux ubuntu for about a month now smoothly. however I cant seem to get any games (warcraft 3 and runes of magic) to work using ubuntu so I want to reinstall vista. But every time I try to install it I get to the screen saying "windows is loading files...." and the bar underneath it freezes before it even gets 1/4 of the way through.

I did let it load files overnight and I woke up to the vista installer being stuck at "windows is expanding files (0%)"

I have tried two seperate windows vista home premium ISO files and I burned them at the slowest speed available using infra recorder, which is 2.0x.

Ive spent the last 3 hours googling and searching and cant seem to find any solutions to this problem so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

EDIT: could the problem be that I was trying to install 32 bit vista when the computer came prepacked with 64 bit??

Sounds more like the burned ISOs aren't such a good idea. You may need to buy a proper DVD, in which case you might as well go to Windows 7 and choose the 64 bit version.

Did you try Crossover to make your games work in Ubuntu?

IF vista came pre-installed on the pc/laptop, you may be able (if it still has the recovery partition) to get it back to factory specs,
Then re-install ubuntu,
Or you should borrow a disk from a friend and install vista (using your 25 digit code),
I do beleave the iso is the problem also..

good luck
