if I claick on the HP under devices there is a file that says windows i clicked on it and I have two files one says DRECOVERY and other says HistoryLOg the DRECOVERY is empty and the Historylog has Wed June 27 User starts recovery manager application application start check if mlsp mode start from rp no mlsp check if valid user patition then it goes back to the welcome menu next button was pressed radio button 2 has been selected etc.. I dont know if i am even in the right stuff but hopefully that may tell you something. thank you

I dont have the 64gbfilesytem my only otptions are HP and FactoryImage. You have any idea what I did wrong?

The 64gbfilesystem would be the host PC for whoever took those screenshots, yours would differ but would be in the same position in the list as shown on the screenshot. Where the screenshot shows 'system rescue...' that's the version of Ubuntu the person who posted the screenshots is using.

so you are trying ubuntu and have NOTinstalled
then you should see the windows harddrive with various directories
sounds like the drive has been wiped in some way

under the HP drive - you should see a number of directories

the program I posted - was a free program - Recuva - but you need a standalone system -

and then scroll down to

I have used the boot cd - but not the recovery programs from the drive - so not sure if they run OK standalone

If the harddrive hasnt been overwritten yet hopefully since its a laptop has anyone suggested pulling out the drive and using a usb sata/ ide connector.I have one and more times than not it has salvaged things from supposedly dead harddrives.I realize in this case the drive isnt dead and just maybe she will be able to find whatever is valuable to her so it isnt lost forever.If shes able to find the pix etc then put them on a cd/dvd for future safekeeping.Always remember computers dont last forever, harddrives and motherboards fail and computers arent meant to be a filing cabinet or storage facility.Things that are irreplacable such as pix, music, documents should be kept on cds/dvds.
