Post Solved: Computer screen Crashes
Hello,

I'm using windows vista home premium desktop
HP
processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 dual Core processor 4400+ 2.30 Hz
RAM: 1918 MB
system type: 32-bit

well recently the computer has started crashing and when it crashes the screen turns all blocky and no matter what I do it doesn't respond, so I restart it and its fine for a few hours or a few days and it keeps crashing. So I defrag the C drive and that didn't solve the problem, later I scanned the computer for a virus and still nothing. So for a last resort I formatted the computer hard drive making it new. For a day it was fine but then it crashed again.

Can anyone help me please

After you formatted the drive and made it new did you get all your updates done before adding new programs?

Please use the TSG System Info tool to let Tech's know the specs of your computer: http://static.techguy.org/download/SysInfo.exe Copy and paste the results here in your thread.
Also, if its a brand name system like an Acer,Dell or HP, please post the exact model of the system.

According to your Tech Guy Utility you are not showing you have SP1&2 installed, so it's far from being up to date Windows wise? It looks like you added Norton, or is this part of the bloatware that came with your computer?

Have you purchased Norton? If not, I would like to suggest getting rid of it as it really is a system hog. I will gladly give you suggestions as to excellent Anti-Virus and Malware programs that are FREE. Let me know

Nope it came with a 60 day free trial, so what anti-virus and malware programs would you recommend?
I updated just recently I know it isn't up to date but I don't think that has to do with the crashes. Any ideas of what may be causing the crashes?

Hopefully one of the Tech's will check in soon and give you a hand

A good Anti-Virus program that is Free to use and is highly recommended here is: Microsoft Security Essentials and or Avast. http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx
http://www.avast.com/en-us/free-antivirus-download

Only have one Anti-Virus program installed at a time, otherwise the computer will not be a happy camper...

Also recommended: These programs get along fine with your Anti-Virus program.

http://www.superantispyware.com/?tag=SUPERANTISPYWARE (Free edition)

Be sure to Update each before running your scans.

Be sure you have current drivers for your HP Computer. Check in at the HP site and save it to favorite places.

You can download SP1 and SP2 and install them without going thru Windows Update, much quicker. Once you get SP2 installed, then go back to get caught up on the rest of the updates thru Windows. This will save you days
Install SP1 first, then SP2.
