Unzip Files using Vista
Windows Vista is supposed to have a built-in "unzipping" capability. I cannot get it to work. I cannot find any specific instructions on how to work this procedure.
All I can find is: #1. Open zipped file. #2 Drag and drop opened file. Now it can be used.
What steps will open thefile?. Where is the unzipped file sent to? Can "cut, copy, paste be used?. How do I get the inzipped file delivered to a memery (flash Drive)
stick?
Thank You

This answer does not solve my problem.

I thank you for the response. I appreciiate the effort.

apart from the fact that I cannot get Vistas' unzip function to work, Th crux seems to be
deeper. When I download a zipped file i goes through my "downloads". BUT the file enters
with a".zip" extension. When i comes out it is a series (up to 13) 3GP files.

All instructions tell us to right or double click THE .zip file (singular!!) and use "Extract". These
instructions do not tell us how to extract "3gp" file.

Amy thooughts on this??

Thanks again

Those are video files. What, exactly, are you downloading?

Downloading zipped files on Vista
I am downloading books from nlsbard.loc.gov. These are sent with a".zip"
extension. During the download I can see the incoming file (In view downloads)
it has the ".zip" on it.
When I located the "downloaded" book it shows up as a series )as many as 13)
3GP files (listed as 0001 thru 0013).
I do not knowhow to "extract" these or unpack or decompress.
several people say 3GP files are videos. One person says the 3GP files are the
contents of the "zip" file.

If I try to "drag and drop" the 3Gp file(s) tomy flash drive I get garbage.

Yes, they're video files.
Yes, they're the files that were in the ZIP file.
They're not books.

I don't know what a "tomy flash drive" is.

I think you just need a player that can play 3gp files. Google is telling me VLC player can do it.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

I personally use VLC for nearly all media.

3GP files are used on 3G mobile phones. However, as stated by DVOM, VLC should be able to play them.

"TO MY FLASH DRIVE" as in move to may flash drive.

Somewhere, something in my Visat is changing the zipped file into
3gp files.

nlsbard.loc.gov is adamant they send one bool in one file (.zip).When
it arrives in my system it reads "db-dickens,charles, the pickwick papers
-db47884.zip"

When i go to "open file location the file has changed to a series of 3gp files
and show as 47884-0001 through 47884-0024.I cannot extravt 3gp files.

There is a glicth somewhere on my VISTA. The guys at "supportnlsbard.loc.gov"
cannot understand the change. (neither can I !!)

Everything is working as designed. Vista is showing you the contents of the ZIP file. A ZIP file is a compressed archive of multiple files. Vista can extract these natively without using any other software. Nothing is being "changed".
