Solved: Connected to wifi but "unidentified network"
I'm trying to connect a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows Vista to my wireless network. It connects to the network just fine but it says "Unidentified network" and I'm unable to surf any websites using any browser. It works fine with an ethernet cable.

Name of the Anti-Virus, Security or Firewall Software: Windows

Laptop: Sony Vaio VGN-NR260E

Wireless card: LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11g PCI-E

OS: Windows Vista 32-bit

Network encryption: WPA2-personal, AES, 2.4Ghz

ipconfig /all output:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000]

Try updating wifi card driver if that does not work try finding your modems settings page, there may be security blocking your IP address.

Btw, remove some of that information so a hack wont use it.

Thanks for replying. What info should i delete? All of the ipconfig /all output?

And I've tried updating the wifi card driver via Sony's support site. I also looked in my router settings page and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary.

I went through this menace during last two days couldnt find anything absolutely anything on internet to solve this problem for me. I called my internet service company helpline, the guy told me to connect the laptop through ethernet cable and allow him to take control, he thereafter just changed the name of network to one with less alphabets, password or phrase to a short pin of numeric ones, wpa-personal to wep and everything started working

Yea, switching to WEP encryption's an easy fix. I'd prefer to stay on WPA2 though.

If changing from wpa-personal to wep made it work, then you need to upgrade your wireless network card/device to a newer one that supports wpa2. The older wep encrytion is breakable in 10 mins and tools for doing so is free on the internet.
