Windows Vista updates wont install
Hello,

Having some problem trying to install windows vista updates. It runs and installs them but once is has restarted it says it could not install and reverting update changes.

Updates include:
KB2655992
KB2691442
KB2712808
KB2722913

I've tried installing them all at the same time, one by one and manually from the Microsoft website.
Also ran sfc / scannow, chkdsk /r and system restore.
I've also ran malwarebytes and super anti spyware.

System specs:
Windows Vista 32 bit
Service pack 2
2GB RAM
Pentium Dual-core CPU

Any help is appreciated.

I had this and the only thing that worked was to do a repair install which still keeps data. Tap F8 on bootup and it should give you the option, but backup data 1st just in case.

Doing a repair install loses all the programs, doesnt it? I Have done them before on XP & Windows 7.

It looks like this is the only option left to do..

I didn't lose anything when I did a repair. It isn't the same as restore to factory settings where it wipes everything and starts again. If a repair doesn't work then you may have to do the latter.

I installed KB2691442 & KB2712808 together and they installed fine.
Then installed KB2722913 on its own - Installed fine.
Then installed KB2655992 on its own - Installed fine.

Restarted a few time, checked for updates and no new updates were found.

Shut down, left for 5 minutes and turned it back on.

Re-Checked for updates and all of them came back
(KB2655992
KB2691442
KB2712808
KB2722913)

Going to proceed with a repair install, unless anyone has any other ideas.

Hey Rhombus

A couple of things to try before a repair installation would be:

1. Download and run the Windows Update Fix-it tool found here.

2. Download and run the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft found here.

Otherwise doing a repair installation is a good idea. There is a possibility that some programs will not work after performing a repair installation but it's pretty rare.

Instructions for doing a repair installation can be found here

Good luck,

If those updates are in the list of installed updates and show as successfully being installed, select to hide and not show them when they appear again.

If the repair goes bad, you risk losing your personal data.

It's your choice as to what you want to place a priority on.
