Want to free up space on my C drive
Hello,
I have a Lenovo laptop that has 3 drives - C, Q and S.

S is called: SERVICEV003 and shows 380 MB free of 1.46 GB.
Q is called: Lenovo and shows 3.76 MB free of 9.76 GB.
C is called: SW_Preload and shows 13.5 GB free of 137 GB.

I found a question in your forum that was dated in March 29, 2010 that is similar to the one I'm going to ask. My C drive was just showing in the red and I followed the steps in the March 2010 to delete temp files and whatnot. Now, I even did the HiJack this download and have a copy of the file that it created. I would like to know what I can delete from this file, gaining me more space on my C drive.

I'm hoping someone can direct me as to what I can delete - some things I don't have a clue as to what they do or program they may be associated with.

Oh, and my Recyle bin and temp folder didn't have sliders as mentioned from the March 2010 forum. Is there any other way to adjust them?

Here are some easy and safe steps for reclaiming some hard drive space:

1. Right-click RECYCLE BIN, click Properties, move the slider from its default value of 10% to 3%, then click Apply - OK.

2. Right-click MY COMPUTER, click Properties - System Restore(tab), move the slider from its default value of 12% to 3%, then click Apply - OK.

When I look through other files in the SW_Preload, it seems as though there is alot that is useless and taking up space. But I'm willing to start with the list of programs & go from there.

Thanks,
albastuck

You have a very small hard drive.

You free up space by uninstalling programs you don't use and deleting data you don't want. Simple as that.

Otherwise I suggest you buy a larger hard drive.

Not sure that your answer was completely helpful. There are things listed in the programs list that I don't have any clue what they do or are for. That was what I was kind of looking for - some guidance as to whether or not I need all the Microsoft service packs that are listed, what Bonjour is for, do I need to keep the Lenovo Care & Lenovo Care Supplement? There are others on the list that I don't know anything about but the ones I listed would be a good place to start.

You have a studio apartment, and you're asking the neighbor what you should throw out. I suggest you move into a larger apartment.

Buy a larger hard drive.

You cannot uninstall or remove any service packs, updates, etc. They're what keep your computer secure.

Whateveryou personally have installed and no longer need can be removed. That's it.

Whatever data you don't want to keep, you can delete. That's it.

I still suggest you buy a larger hard drive.

My advice is the most useful you'll receive. Anyone else will take a guess as to what you need and tell you to uninstall programs that you may need, the removal of which could cause problems. Uninstalling programs on a small hard drive is like throwing out the remote control to save space. It really doesn't matter.

You need a larger hard drive.

Hi Albastuck,

The best way to do it is look up the programs you don't know anything about, one by one on the Internet, and learn about them. Once you know what a program is for you can decide if you need it.

Only you know what applications are important to you. It is a very personal decision, based on what you are using your computer for. No one else knows that, only you.

Have fun and good luck!

I agree with DoubleHelix, to reset of this problem for ever you have to buy a larger one.
But in case of any matter you don't want to do that we suggest :
Try to copy your unnecessary Films,Photos and some personal LARGE data like that to somewhere else like a DVD .
As your "USERS" folder is about 35GB it shows that you should have some personal large files on it that is not relevant to any critical software, so doing this job could make you ride of your problem but this is a TEMPORARY SOLUTION, at the end you have to buy new HDD.
