Need more details here. The driver isn't recognized? You're connecting wireless? Are all devices in Device Manager all loaded correctly?

Considering Windows Vista Beta 1 is still an early build for IT administrators and developers,
one would assume that anyone that actually had a legitimate copy of it would know how to troubleshoot networking issues.
I believe TSG's support of illegally obtained software is non-existant, as is their tolerance of it.

Just my two cents however, I'm sure a Mod or Admin will act accordingly.

Everything looks fine in device manager. I also disable IPv6, I connect through a router (modem connected to router connected to computer) I tried just directly connecting the modem, and no problem. I cant ping the router though. I just dont know what else to do
My net card is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

What are the numbers that you get with doing the command IPCONFIG /ALL under the Command Prompt function?

Well, I usually get an IP starting with 169, but sometimes I get my router's IP address, but still never connected at the time. But most of the time I'm dropped with a 169

a 169 IP address means that you're not getting a dhcp from your router.

Can you ping your router from the command prompt?

So, what can I do to fix this problem? Does it have anything to do with my netcard?

Well, it's either the NIC card driver, the network cord or your router. Your pick.

Well, When I'm on XP (which I am now) which is on my other hard drive I'm connected just fine. So it must be that driver. Do you have a link to download the installer for those drivers. If so, I could launch the file in compatability mode with XP, service pace 2 (that was how I got my sound drivers to work) and that would most likely fix my problem. Assuming that it is those drivers

Try the newer beta version, 5308. I think the nic card support is better.

Hi, I'm having a simular problem. Installed vista RC1 and RC2 and get the same result.

I have 2 machines (this one still running XP) and another on vista RC2.

Upon setting up the network under vista I can ping this machine and my router, access the router's admin page and share files between both PC's. However it won't access the net through IE.

The settings are the same as far as gateway IP address etc as on this machine. However this machine obviously still access's the net.

If I plug my usb dsl modem in and set it up I can access the net just fine on the vista machine. But then I have to go down the route of setting up ics for the this PC which kind of works against the reason I got the router.

The router is a Netgear DG834 v2.

Wondering if there is anything I have missed in vista's slightly different layout or whether it is a known issue and to go back to xp for the time being?

Any help greatly appreciated.
