One quick one before this thread is marked solved.
With fairness to Microsoft, there is a wonderful feature in Vista called "Help and Support" If you open it and type recycle bin in the empty panel, the first item on the list tells you how to recover the bin!
The feature also answers many other problems displayed on these pages.
