Installing new mobo
Due to an issue with my mobo I have to get a new one. In XP you probaly have to do a repair reinstall to get the drivers going and reactivate. Is it the same in Vista. Or will Vista just load all the new drivers on boot-up? I know I will probaly have to reactivate but that is easy. Thanks

I have not tried to do a board swap without a reinstall on vista yet. I would do some things before you swap the board.

1 Backup any important data such as financial records, pics, etc.

2 Uninstall any software dependent on the old board; this would be things like onboard sound, onboard nic, any monitoring software, etc. During this process DO NOT reboot. Just tell it later.

3 Uninstall your chipset or motherboard drivers if you have that option in the program features. If not, I would change to a standard ide controller in device manager. Note I just tried this and you must do it manually.

4 Disable any anti-virus software. If you cannot disable it, then uninstall it. You will need to reinstall once you are finished.

5 Now shutdown and do the swap. Power up and see how it works. If it does not boot, you may need to boot with your vista dvd and do a repair.
