Solved: Dual video question
Never tried this before and wondering if anyone else has. This pc came with on board graphics. I will be installing a new video card with digital input. Here's my question.. Do I have to disable the on board video, or is it possible to have both available and have a monitor connected to each?

With XP, for me it's always worked well. I've got two dual output on Vista right now and it works great. I've used AGP/onboard, PCI/AGP, PCI/onboard, anything to have more than one monitor. With Windows 2000 and older motherboards, it was a pain, but now it pretty much works.

Thanks DT.. I figured it would work, but wanted to make sure before disabling the onboard one. Stay warm up there!

Just make sure if you're disabling the onboard video that you choose to initialize the AGP or PCIE card first in the bios.

And if get a video card that supports two monitor outputs and you only need two then disable the onboard video - less complicated and works more smoothly.

Note, that on some systems the onboard video gets disabled as soon as you add a seperate video card, sometimes you can make it stay on if you make the onboard video the primary one(bad for gaming), other times you can't make it stay while other times its impossible to turn it off if you want too.

Thanks for the suggestions T6. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything hidden in Vista to keep me front setting up a configuration that way. I'll know soon enough, lol.
I'll mark this as solved and post new if I have any problems.

I am running an HP Pavilion a6500f it has an NVidia GF7100 onboard and im trying to also run an additional NVidia GF7200 on the PCIE; I've also tried w/ an old ATI Radeon and the onboard w/ no success.

The closest i have gotten to get what I want is putting in both the GF7300 and the radeon (seen by vista as a generic) and vista turns one or the other off.

Any ideas?
