System restore problem
I'm trying to turn on system restore,& I get the following 2 error messages:

1:
Could not create the scheduled task for the following reason:
The request is not supported.(0x80070032)

2.
There was an unexpected error in the property page
The request is not supported.(0x80070032)
please close the property page & try again.

Also, system restore doesn't appear in services like it did on XP.

Another small problem is I can't get the Disk Defragmenter to work either.

Thanks.

Your not alone here.

At least I can defrag Vista from my XP partition.
And I can restore Vista with Acronis True Image.

As near as I can tell ... Vista will defrag after several hours .. on a fresh install ...
But you have no indication of its progress or possible success.

It seems to me that nothing in Vista is where you'd expect to find it.

I have managed to do a system restore, but only in safe mode.
It takes ages for it to come up after clicking on it.

SYSTEM RESTORE

Up until recently SYSTEM RESTORE was working okay on my laptop with WINDOWS VISTA, but now it will not function any more in normal mode - without leaving the following message: "the restore point could not be created for the following reason: the creation of a shadow copy has timed"
It then gives me a button to press entitled "Try again this option" which I have done several times but I end up getting the above message each time.

I have managed to do System Restore in SAFE MODE, but would like to do in NORMAL MODE

Any suggestions on how to sort out this problem?
Any SAFE software I could download that could sort it out?

It seems a few others have had this problem, if you did, would be delighted to know how you got it sorted.

Thank you.

Yes, I have a problem with the restore, but this one says the Shadow Copy Service isn't working and that's the reason. Everything else is running more smoothly nowadays...but the restore is the problem.

I (like adam1138 above) also cannot create a Restore Point. When I try to do so, I get the following System Protection error message:

Could not create the scheduled task for the following reason:
The request is not supported. (0x80070032)

I'm using Vista Home Premium and have installed all applicable updates. If anyone knows of a fix for this rather serious bug, their help would be much appreciated. I've searched MS's Knowledgebase and their Vista Support websites but didn't find any reference to this specific bug.

Thanks

Have you tried using System Restore only in the Safe Mode, Patricko?

Vista's system restore will do you no good if Vista isn't working ....
Even if Vista Restore worked.

This morning, I tried to boot to Vista and it wouldn't.
I put my ATI disc in and rewrote the MBR, and all was well in a matter of minutes.

Get Acronis True Image and an external Hard Drive.
You won't regret it.

I think it has to do with Diskeeper, because after I uninstalled it, the Windows defragmenter does not work anymore, and I started to get that error for System Protection.
