The following work for me with Vista Home Premium

AVG & Firewall

Absolute Patience (Card Games)

EWord Connect (Scrabble-type Game)

Winamp

SpywareBlaster

Windows Media Player

Digiguide

Epson Stylus Photo RX560 Printer

Screenhunter

Wise Registry Cleaner

SpeedFan

Picasa2

Photofiltre

Autoruns

(I'm enjoying using Vista, with no problems (yet!) - it's fast and easy to use. I've set it to classic view). I particularly like its search capabilities.

Hope this is an appropriate thread in which to post this.

In control panel I opened "Performance Information and Tools" and found the base-level score for my computer system (2.5). I then surfed to the site which explains about these scores, and gives information on software compatibility, etc.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...WM=2.3&D3D=3.0

Computers with higher scores are more compatible with Vista. My Home Premium edition seems to work well at the score level of 2.5.

My new "Elements" 320g hard-drive was accepted by my Vista system with no problems.

Thats is an incdibly low score to be opeating Vista tuppence. I thought my modest 3.6 was bad, but I also run everything faultlessly. Which item is bringing yours down to that level - graphics card?

It does seem very low and it's quite possibly, the graphics card - though the computer runs without any problems. The system is not "high-end". Zoostorm turn out quite basic systems, I'm lead to believe. I wouldn't have chosen it if I had money to spend - this system is being purched on H.P., buy now, pay later, so my choice of it was effectively made for me by my financial situation.

How would I tell exactly which part is "dragging" down the score?

Go into the Control Panel and click system and maintenance/.
Under system you will see "Windows experience index base score"
Click that.
The score is not an average, but is based on the worst condition in your computer. You can see there what is pulling you down.
Its a little artificial, and if your computer runs alright for you - don't worry.

Don't feel too bad. I also have budget limitations but, in retirement, this remains one of my major interests so I am "allowed" to indulge just a little!

Thankis, uhaligani.

I'll do that. As you say, as long as the systems running satisfactorily for me, that the main thing!

The graphics card does have the lowest score - dragging down the average.

Here's a screen-shot of the scores.

vista with msn
Recently got vista with new computer and installed msn since we have msn email address and didn't want to go through the hassle of changing it. I cannot open any emails with attachments. Also, when on craigslist and hit the email address to respond to it goes to msn homepage rather than opening an email window. Any solutions to these problems? Thx

Very interesting, Jacee. Thanks for posting the information. Yahoo works well with Vista, I've found. I don't use MSN or Outlook Express, etc.

I do use Safe-mail and find is works in Vista.

Hope you are able to sort your email programs, tmcsn.

Look at "ePrompter" which is probably the best of that type of program: http://www.eprompter.com/index.htm. Some are using it on VISTA and some report problems which you can view in their forums.

Hey guys, I am new to Vista. I an running Vista Ultimate 64bit and I am loving it. I think it does a good combo of different OS's. I will post my specs later today.

Also, I am having issues finding a 64 bit FTP client I like. Any suggestions? I am using SmartFTP right now.

Question 64bit Vista
Hi All,
Maybe this has been posted already, & I'm just not finding it, but, my question is: are 32bit programs compatible with 64bit Vista Ultima? I am having a laptop built, & they are put 64bit Ultima on it. All of my programs are 32bit XP.

Thanks
Craig
