Solved: Vista sidebar gadgets won't view.
I'm having problems with the windows vista sidebar. It was working fine then suddenly it stopped working and I can't seem to view the gadgets properly. They appear either as a blank black or white box.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Or maybe if there is a way to reinstall the sidebar?

Thanks

What I ended up doing was calling the Microsoft help line. They first were confused to what the problem could be.. Then they worked it out to be a couple of missing dll files. One of them was Java. I don't remember now what the other dll file was, but the guy at Microsoft said that this was a problem that they hadn't come across before, and that he planned on posting it on their website for Vista in the FAQ section.. So maybe try searching the Microsoft site and see if anything comes up for that problem..

Hope you get it fixed, I know I was pretty annoyed with it... It seemed to happen after I installed new programs. One of them was Nero...

This post really saved my bacon. After a Mcafee update to my 5 day old system I had the same problem with my sidebar. I ran the command line DLL's and the sidebar is back up.

One tip would be to type the commands carefully. I had to type regsvr32 msxml3.dll a couple times before I figured out the "l" was not a "1". You will receive a confirmation message if the command was executed correctly.

Thumbs up Worked great!
My sidebar had been working perfectly until a McAfee update installed and then suddenly....no working gadgets. So I Googled my problem and found your site.

Wow, super easy fix...So glad I found you guys...I will definitely be back!!! This was the quickest and easiest fix for anything that has gone wrong with Vista so far!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

How do I reactivate gadgets?
I clicked on the Start icon on the lower left corner, but don't see a 'search box.' There is the option 'Search' but no box, there is the option 'Run' that I can click on also. When I type in cmd into the box that opens after opening Run, it says C:\Users\Susan so I don't think I am running as administrator. Can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong? I tried typing the three regsvr lines, but none of them worked. Please help!
